Myers Cocktail (IV Vitamins)
The “Myers cocktail” is a nutrient cocktail invented by John Myers, a physician from Baltimore, Maryland in 1960. Currently, the nutrient cocktail has been popularized by Alan Gaby, M.D., president of the American Holistic Medical Association and a physician who writes a lot about nutritional factors in medicine. The standard Myers’ Cocktail consists of IV fluids, magnesium, calcium, vitamin B-5, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, vitamin B complex, and vitamin C. Other vitamins or ingredients may be added to the Myers’ Cocktail protocol, depending on the patient’s diagnosis and overall health. Many people who have benefited from this protocol claim that the intravenous shots of vitamin B12 in Myers’ Cocktail are even more beneficial than vitamin B-12 intramuscular injections in restoring their energy and stamina. Intravenous treatments are more effective than oral therapy simply because it bypasses the GI tract, therefore providing increased blood levels of nutrients and providing a greater benefit to the patient. According to some experts, intravenous delivery may improve the transport of nutrients from the blood into the cells.
